Thelma Mitchell Maxwell, 86, of 116 West College Street, Bridgewater, VA passed away Monday November 23, 2009 at Avante Nursing Home in Harrisonburg, VA. She was born in  Sugar Grove, WV September 26, 1923, the daughter of the late R. Ray Mitchell and F. Katherine Hedrick Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray R. Maxwell, February 8, 1991.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Kay Looney and husband, Terry of Bridgewater, VA with whom she lived for 18 years. Also surviving: one sister, Iris Pope of Montezuma, VA; 2 grandsons, Rion and Kristian, 3 great-grandchildren, Aaron, Brenna, and Kelton Looney. She was preceded in death by one son, Robert Maxwell in 1965, one daughter, Brenda Maxwell in 1968, and one sister, Mary Bernice Yeakle.
She was co-owner/operator of Loan Pine Service Station, Brandywine, WV. A 1941 graduate of Franklin High School and a member of Muhlenberg Lutheran Church, Harrisonburg, VA.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandywine, WV. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 29, 2009 at the Muhlenberg Lutheran Church officiated by Rev. David Nelson. Friends may call at the Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin, WV on Friday, November 27, 2009 from 9 am until 5 pm. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Muhlenberg Lutheran Church Building Fund, 281 East Market Street, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
