Robert Lee “Gabe” Evans, age 81 of Maysville, WV, passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, WV. He was born at Jordan Run, WV on November 19, 1929 to the late Harrison and Ethel Mallow Evans. On his 18th birthday, November 19, 1947, he married Ramona Barr Evans, who survives in Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg. He attended school at Streby School house, was a member of the Rough Run Church of the Brethren, and was a former member of the Maysville Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Evans was a farmer, a timberman and was employed by the WVDOT for several years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Evans is survived by: 3 daughters, Barbara Zirkle and husband Ron of Clarksburg, WV, Bonnie Carr and husband Gary of Maysville, WV, Debbie Crites of Moorefield, WV; 2 sons, Willy Evans and wife Sandy, Leon Evans and wife Andrea, both of Maysville; a sister, Anna Jane Mongold of Maysville; 2 brothers, Harold Evans and wife Jean, Verlin Evans and wife Pearl, both of Maysville; 19 grandchildren, Danny Zirkle of Brunswick, OH, Cindy Zirkle Bryant of Bridgeport, WV, Missy Bennett of Maysville, Cary Runions of Maysville, Amanda Hall of Maysville, Amy Arbaugh of Moorefield, Larry “Buck”, Cotdy, Jarett, Wyatt Evans, all of Seneca Rocks, WV, Leon Evans of Maysville, Wesley Evans of Maysville, William Evans, Jr. of Vine Grove, KY, Jon Evans of Maysville, Jay Riggleman of Moorefield, Amber Riggleman of Mt. Storm, Ricky Riggleman of Maysville, Shawn and Chris Crites of Moorefield; and 16 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Evans was preceded in death by: a son, Larry Evans; 4 brothers, Leonard, John, Ed and Jim Evans; and a sister, Bessie Evans.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 17, 2011, 6-8 Pm at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV. Pastor Randy Mongold will officiate funeral services on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Evans Cemetery, Jordan Run.
