William Peter Kancler, age 60, of Petersburg, WV, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at UVA Hospital, Charlottesville, VA, following injuries he suffered in a house fire earlier that day. He was born on April 10, 1953 in Arlington, VA, the son of the late Anthony and Erika (Meise) Kancler. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine (Shreve) Kancler on April 4, 2010.
Mr. Kancler was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corp. and the United States Army. He served in the Vietman War from 1972-1974 while in the USMC. He later re-enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1977 and served in the Persian Gulf before retiring as a Sgt. 1st Class from the United States Army in 1991. After his retirement from the US Military he worked for the US Postal Service for several years. He was a member of the VFW Post 6454 in Petersburg, WV.
Mr. Kancler is survived by: 1 son, Anthony Kancler of Reno, NV and 2 sisters, Erika Kancler of Waynesboro, VA and Edith Kancler of Alexandria, VA.
A graveside service will be held at South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens in Petersburg, WV on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at 11:00AM with Rev. Larry Cantu officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the VFW Post 6454 Honor Guard.
