Agnes M. Simmons , age 82 of Brandywine, WV, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Sentara RMH in Harrisonburg, VA. She was born on January 21, 1936 in Brandywine, WV, the daughter of the late Samuel and Mary (Blizzard) Varner. On June 12, 1954, Agnes married John Herald "Heck" Simmons, who survives in Brandywine.

Mrs. Simmons was a 1954 graduate of Franklin High School and a member of Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren. She had worked as a Teacher's Aide at Brandywine Elementary School and retired in 1997.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by: a daughter, Janet L. Roberson and husband Lowell of Weyers Cave, VA; a son, David W. Simmons and wife Christina of Brandywine; a brother, Stephen Varner and wife Bernice of Brandywine; 4 granddaughters, Tonia Hedrick and husband Matt, Trisha Knicely and husband Dennis, Amanda Smith and husband Greg, Amber Brown and husband Justin; and 6 great-grandchildren, Connor Hedrick, Carrigan Hedrick, Corinne Hedrick, Jenna Anderson, Adalyn Smith, and Brynlee Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Carla Sue, and a sister, Shiela Simmons.

Mrs. Simmons' family will receive friends on Friday, November 23, 2018, 6-8 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, WV. Funeral services will be on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren in Brandywine, with Evangelist Larry Danner officiating.
