Alma Lee
Layman
May 5, 1939 – June 7, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mom, Alma Lee Layman, who peacefully entered into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on June 7, 2025 at Pendleton Manor Nursing Home in Franklin, West Virginia. Alma was born on May 5, 1939, the second daughter of the late Charles Timney and Dorthea (Kroll) Timney, and grew up in Detmold, attending Central School and graduating from Valley High School in 1957. She married Anthony E. Layman, the love of her life, in February of 1958 in Spokan, Washington. Anthony preceded her in death, passing from this life on December 13, 2023, and has been waiting to "stroll over heaven" with her, as he sang to her many times over the years.
After moving back to the area in 1960, they began raising their family and Alma began a career with the Head Start Program where she worked for 25 years. Alma was the heartbeat of her family and enjoyed gathering family and friends for good food and lively fellowship, taking every opportunity to bring people together to make wonderful memories, which we will all hold very dear to our hearts. She was also a planner of trips, mostly to visit family and friends all around the country and she rarely missed a special occasion like a graduation or wedding with many happening in Colorado, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Many friends and family have been blessed over the years by her hospitality and generosity, and she will be remembered for her homemade soups, pies, scotcheroos and her warm and loving nature. We always said that people came for these gatherings and didn't want to leave because they were having so much fun – the gatherings typically lasted long past the time that was originally planned. (such fun times!) Alma was a member of Trinity Assembly of God Church in Midlothian and her faith has always been an integral part of her life, and that legacy of faith has been passed on to her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Alma was preceded in death by a beloved son-in-law, Kevin Lamberth, as well as a brother in law, Donald Philip. She is survived by her children: Stephen Layman (Vivian), Colorado Springs, CO, Kathryn Lamberth, Little River, South Carolina, Patricia Musgrove (Jim), Franklin, West Virginia, and Charles Layman (Michele), Elizabeth, Colorado. She is also survived by two beloved sisters, Eleanor Ritchie (D.L.) and June Philip, as well as two sisters-in-law, Theresa Winner Bowen and Margaret Stewart. In addition, Alma was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, as well as some very special cousins and some very special friends.
Alma was loved by so many and will be remembered for her faithfulness to her Lord, her kindness to everyone, and her very warm, generous and loving ways that always brought people together for good times and beautiful memories. We would like to express our deep gratitude to all of the staff at Pendleton Manor Nursing Home and Grant Memorial Hospice, who very lovingly and attentively cared for our mom in the final days of her life. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of gifts and flowers, donations may be made to Pendleton Nursing Home in memory of Alma Layman, PO Box 700, Franklin, WV, 26807.
