Betty (Crider) Hill, age 86, of Petersburg, WV, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2018 at the Grant Rehabilitation & Care Center in Petersburg. She was born in Hardy County, WV on October 7, 1931 the daughter of the late, Daisy Myrtle (Ketterman) Conrad, but she was raised by her maternal grandparents Ed and Pearl Ketterman. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Keith Hill in 1977.
Ms. Hill attended school at the Ketterman School in Hardy County. She received a degree in education from Shepherd University in
Shepherdstown, West Virginia. She began her teaching career at the age of 21 in the Ketterman School House, directly adjacent to her birth place on Dumplin Run. Betty was a lifelong educator and taught for 34 ½ years at many local schools before retiring from the Petersburg Elementary School in Petersburg. She volunteered many years at the Exhibit Building at the Tri County Fair and was a member of the Grant County Retired Teachers Associations. She had also formerly attended the Main Street United Methodist Church in Petersburg.
Mrs. Hill is survived by
2 sons: Dennis Hill and wife, Charlotte, of Moorefield, WV
and Charles Hill (Tena) of Arthur, WV; 1 brother, Bobby Sites of Baltimore, MD; 4 grandchildren, Morgan (Josh) See, David (Katya) Hill, Kayla (Randall) Hacker and Taylor See; 2 great-granddaughters, Darah & Margo See and her special caregiver, Trish Stiers.
In addition to her husband, parents and grandparents she is preceded in death by a brother, Earl Lee Conrad.
Mrs. Hill's family will receive friends on Sunday, August 19, 2018 from 1-3PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg. A celebration of life will follow at 3PM in the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Bergdoll officiating. True to her lifelong calling, Betty donated her body to WVU School of Medicine Gift Registry with specific interest to further health & science advancements for the hearing impaired.
