Carol Jean Kosup, age 85, of Harrisonburg, VA, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Bellaire of Stone Port in Harrisonburg, VA. She was born on March 25, 1940, in Pound, VA, the daughter of the late General Glay and Oma Jane (Shortt) Williams. Carol married Leonard John Kosup, who preceded her in death on July 20, 2025.
After graduating from Pound High School in Pound, VA, Carol attended Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, NC. She worked in hospitals in Roanoke, VA; Johnson City, TN; Bristol, TN & Wise, VA. She also worked for the Commission on Professional and Hospital Activities in Ann Arbor, MI. Her primary role was to work with medical staff to help them evaluate and improve quality of medical care.
After retiring, she had the opportunity to volunteer, helping people and animals. While living in Natural Bridge, VA, she worked with a quadriplegic friend to develop a program to transport people for medical appointments. She also managed the Lexington Habitat Resale Store with her husband. She managed a fair booth in Lexington where entries were made and judged for food and crafts. She and her husband judged in fairs in 4 counties in VA.
After moving to Franklin, WV in 2002, she helped form the Pendleton Animal Welfare organization and worked with people to help them with the cost of spaying/neutering animals, managed flea market booths to help raise money for the organization and also sold food/drinks at musical events. She also worked with the Christian Assistance Network Food Pantry. In the words of Carol, "It was a good life."
Carol leaves behind to cherish her memory: Nieces & Nephews, Steven Funk, Allan Funk, Tommy Selby, Dawn Williams, Scott Williams, Matt Williams, Missy Glover, Muffett Grubb, Chip Mincey. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Mary Faye Funk, Melissa Joanne Mincey, Thomas Glay Williams; and Niece & Nephew, Marie Ledford and Michael Funk.
In honoring Carol's wishes, her body has been cremated. Memories and words of comfort may be left at www.basagic.com.
