Obituary

Chester Allen Snyder, age 89, of Maysville, WV, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2026 at the Pendleton Manor in Franklin, WV. Mr. Snyder was born on July 24, 1937 in Petersburg, WV, the son of the late Lylse and Wilda (Feaster) Snyder. On October 10, 1965 Chester married the love of his life, Patty (Kimble) Snyder.

Mr. Snyder was a 1955 graduate of Petersburg High School and a veteran of the US Army. He owned and operated Chester A Snyder & Son Excavating, developing many lasting friendships throughout the Grant County and surrounding areas. During his spare time and after retirement, he also loved working on his farm, especially when he was on one of his John Deere Tractors. He attended the Cornerstone Family Fellowship Church and was a former member of Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church in Maysville, WV. Chester and Patty were also passionate about traveling and camping. They vacationed all over the United States, missing only Alaska, Hawaii, and Louisiana. He was a devoted family man who loved his family deeply, taking advantage of every moment with his children and grandchildren. Chester and Patty often hosted gatherings with family and friends playing cards, shooting pool, and making lasting memories.

In addition to his wife, Chester leaves behind to cherish his memory: 2 daughters, Zona Hutson (Scott) of Salem, WV; Yvonne Harp (Stephen) of Fayetteville, WV; a son, Bill Snyder (Debbi) of Burlington, WV; a sister, Naomi Shipley of Martinsburg, WV; a brother, Donald Snyder of Oakland, MD; 4 grandchildren, Parker Hutson; Jack Hutson; Mason Harp; and Bryce Harp. He was preceded in death by: 3 brothers, Glen; Robert; and Nolan Snyder; 2 sisters, Audrey Lough and Mary Jane Carr.

Chester’s family will receive friends on Monday, November 2, 2026 4-7 PM, at the Basagic Funeral Home, Petersburg, WV.
