Coye Franklin VanMeter , age 88, of Cabins, WV, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2022, at his residence. He was born on December 10, 1933, in Smoke Holes, WV, the son of the late Jacob Harrison and Zernie Alice (Alt) VanMeter. On December 10, 1982, Coy married Edith Mae (Brantner) VanMeter, who survives in Cabins.

Mr. VanMeter attended school in Smoke Holes and formerly attended Corners United Methodist Church. He had previously worked for Grove's Turkey Farm and Dettinburn Trucking. Coye retired as a plant operator in 1996 from Germany Valley Limestone.

Coye was a member of the NRA and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved woodworking and working in his greenhouse. He enjoyed camping with his family during the Summer months.

In addition to his wife, Coye leaves behind to cherish his memory: 2 daughters, Jenny Stump (Randy) of Moorefield, WV, Lisa Taylor (Zack) of Old Fields, WV; 3 sons, Morris VanMeter of Dorcas, WV, Rick VanMeter (Jean) of Cabins, WV, Randy VanMeter (Dorene) of Cabins, WV; a step daughter, Amaleasa Allamong (Roger) of Fountain, WV; a step son, Danny Willis (Selina) of Romney, WV; 3 sisters, Zadie Helmick of New Market, VA, Evelyn Bergeron of Romney, WV, Judy Helmick of Petersburg, WV; a brother, Donald VanMeter (Rose) of Cabins, WV; 18 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: a son, Gregory VanMeter; a grandson, RP Stump; a great-grandson, Matthew VanMeter; and 5 brothers, Calvin, Emmit, Archy, David, and Ronnie VanMeter.

Mr. VanMeter's family will receive friends on Monday, November 7, 2022, 6-8 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor PJ Landis officiating. Interment will be in the VanMeter Family Cemetery, Cabins, WV.
