Daniel Jerome "DJ" Oates , age 28, of Singers Glen, Va, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2018. He was born on May 30, 1990, in Petersburg, WV, the son of Alexia D.(Hoover) Oates-Summers and husband Gene of Singers Glen and Olen "Jerry" Oates, II and fiance Cindy of Petersburg.

Daniel had attended J. Frank Hillyard Middle School, Broadway Middle School and Petersburg High School. He was a member of the Petersburg Church of God and he loved hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. Daniel had worked as a Welder for Hampshire Metal and Industrial in Romney, WV.

In addition to his parents, Daniel is survived by: a daughter, Caylen Rachelle Oates of Elkton, VA, Paternal grandparents, Olen J. Oates and Dottie of Petersburg; a sister, Destanee Summers of Singers Glen; 2 step sisters, Cassie Bell of Knoxville, TN, and Brianna Bell of Petersburg; a brother, Kyle Kermit Oates and Raina of Singers Glen; 2 step brothers, Bradley Summers and Tripp Summers of Singers Glen; 2 nieces, Amara Oates and Ella Roby; several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Daniel was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Betty Hoover.

Daniel's family will receive friends on Monday, November 26, 2018, 6-8 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Johnny Goldizen officiating. Interment will be in the Lahmansville Cemetery.
