Darl Lenwood Reel, age 86, passed away on September 13, 2020, at Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown, WV. He was born in Dorcas, WV, May 31, 1934, the son of the late Eston Henry Reel and Lena Fostie (Riggleman) Reel and was the last remaining member of his family and the last remaining grandchild of David Clinton Mongold. Darl was preceded in death by siblings: Elsie Helmick, Nelletta Markwood, Dave, Leota, Claude and Pete Reel.

Mr. Reel is survived by: 1 daughter, Elizabeth Diane Flanagan (Robert David) of Petersburg, WV; 2 granddaughters, Desiree N. Turner (Patrick) and Gabriella Faith Flanagan (Rodger Miller); and 2 great-grandsons, Bryce W. Turner and Wyatt Kohen Miller, all of Dorcas, WV; a step-granddaughter, Brittany R. Shuck (Chad) of Keyser, WV; his ex-wife, Anna K. (Mallow) Reel Kemp; a sister-in-law, Pauline Reel; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his surviving family, is his loyal dog companion of 13 years, Pebbles.

In 1985, Darl started attending service at the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ and was a faithful member 'til the end, believing Calvin Redman was the best preacher anyone could have. He was as dedicated to hard work almost as much as his faith.  He was Veteran of the US Army.

From the age of 15, Darl had been a poultry grower in addition to raising cattle. Passionate about all animals, he would stop to move turtles out of the roads, regularly feed the birds, squirrels and deer, and rode horses as a past time in his younger years. Driving around in his truck with Pebbles was his favorite thing to do. His passion didn't stop there though. He enjoyed fixing up old vehicles, doing farm work, and being with his family. Darl believed in everyone and encouraged us to never give up and keep fighting. His strength and words of wisdom are forever in our hearts.

Mr. Reel's family will receive friends on Thursday, September 17, 2020, 6-8 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV. Funeral services will be on Friday, September 18, 2020 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Calvin Redman officiating. Interment will be in the Sites Cemetery in Dorcas, WV with military honors conducted by Potomac Highlands VFW #6454.
