Darmon Enoch Whetzel, age 81, of Petersburg, WV, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 5, 2026. He was born on March 16, 1945 in Landes, WV, the son of the late Enoch and Goldie Mae (Nazelrodt) Whetzel. On February 5, 1998, he was widowed by his first love, Gaynel M. (Shreve) Whetzel.

Mr. Whetzel attended the Wise School House in Landes and went to The Brake Covenant Church of the Brethren. After 30 years of service, Darmon retired from Pilgrim’s Pride in Moorefield, WV. While living in the great state of West Virginia, Darmon pursued his passion for hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed riding off-road vehicles with his nephew, Josh Whetzel, whom he considered a son.

Darmon is survived by: his girlfriend, Edna Mae Dolly; a step-daughter, Belinda Shirk of Smoke Hole, WV; a step-granddaughter, Pamela Shirk of Smoke Hole, WV; 2 sisters, Eva Jean Thorne of Baker, WV; Bonnie Lou Whetzel of Elkins, WV; 2 brothers, Donald Ray Whetzel (Jennifer) of Augusta, WV; Billy Joe Whetzel of Petersburg, WV; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by: 3 sisters, Leva Jean Whetzel; Anna Lee Whetzel; Paula Mae Swick; and 2 infant sisters.

Darmon’s family will receive friends on Thursday, July 9, 2026, 5-7 PM, at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Craig Howard officiating. Interment will be in the Whetzel Family Cemetery, Arthur, WV.
