David Lee Sherman, age 65, of Petersburg, WV, passed away at his home on Sunday, February 5, 2023.  He was born on September 23, 1957 in Moorefield, WV, the son of the late William Orlando and Mary Henderson (Runions) Sherman.  On March 25, 2016, David married Vicky (Jarrels) Sherman who survives in Petersburg.

Mr. Sherman attended Petersburg High School and Bakers Rock United Methodist Church.  David was employed by Dettinburn and Hinkle Trucking as a mechanic.  He enjoyed working on vehicles, hunting, fishing, and gardening.  David was a hard worker who took pride in his work as a mechanic as well as keeping a well-manicured lawn.  In his down time, he could be found watching western movies and sipping unsweet tea or taking a drive with his family.  David also had a wonderful sense of humor and was quick with a joke.   He will be remembered as a loving husband, step-father, grandfather, brother, and uncle.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: 2 step-daughters, Brittanie S. Stewart-Wilson of Florida, Tiffany N. C. Stewart of Petersburg, WV; a step-son, Aaron I. VanMeter of Upper Tract, WV; a sister Mary Kathryn "Kathy" Haynes (Mike) of Colfax, LA; 4 step-children from a previous marriage,  Linda Hedrick (Scott), Donna Wimer (Gary), Mary Ann Evans, and Tammy Mathis; several step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  David was preceded in death by: a step-daughter, Crystal Faith VanMeter; 4 brothers, Howard Randall, William Richard, Donald Wayne and Frederick Allen "Freddie" Sherman.

David's family will receive friends on Saturday, February 11, 2023, 12 – 2 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV.  Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM with Rev.
