David Lee Thompson, Sr., age 71, of Maysville, WV passed away on Friday, July 31, 2020 at his residence. He was born on April 6, 1949 in Riverton, WV the son of the late Opie Thompson and Evalina (Lawrence) Thompson. David married his wife of 52 years, Clara Mae (Kile) Thompson on December 10, 1967, who survives in Maysville.

Mr. Thompson attended school in Riverton. He was a Christian by faith and former member of the North Fork Mennonite Church of Petersburg. David was a retired foreman for the Greer Lime Co. in Riverton. He enjoyed going to yard sales, auctions and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Mr. Thompson is survived by: 2 daughters, Deanna Berg (Thanh) of Maysville and Michelle Metheney (William) of Scherr, WV; 3 sons, David Thompson (Eva) of Bridgewater, VA, Daniel Thompson (Cindy) Weyers Cave, VA and PhilipThompson of Maysville, WV; 2 brothers, Sheldon Thompson (Mary) of Moorefield, WV and Clyde "Bob" Thompson (Norma) of Harman, WV; 15 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson is preceded in death by: 1 brother, Hansel "Saul" Thompson and 2 sisters, Katherine Reel and Virginia Burns.

Viewing hours for Mr. Thompson will be 2-8PM on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV. Due to Covid-19 restrictions the family will have a private service on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 with interment following at the North Fork Mennonite Cemetery in Petersburg.
