Donald "Wayne" Harris, age 77, of New Creek, WV passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at his home. He was born on March 23, 1947 in Antioch, WV, the son of the late Otto Fisher and Irene Mildred (Leatherman) Harris. On March 15, 1965, Wayne married his loving wife, Barbara Ann (Keplinger) Harris, who survives in New Creek.
Mr. Harris was a 1965 graduate of Petersburg High School and was a member of the Knobley Covenant Brethren Church. He began working for Allegheny Mines and later retired from the WV Department of Highways as a surveyor. Not wanting to stay idle, Wayne began farming after retirement. He also enjoyed the outdoors, whether he was walking around taking in nature or as an avid hunter, seeking his next adventure. In his younger years, you would find him with friends playing softball. His love of the outdoors and love for family will be his lasting legacy.
In addition to his wife, Wayne is survived by: 4 daughters, Tammy Hesse (Buddy) of Petersburg, WV; Julie Kesner (Fiancé Jay) of Cabins, WV; Malinda Turner (Rodney) of Petersburg, WV; Beth Dayton (Stacey) of Petersburg, WV; 3 sisters, Mildred Messinger (Richard); Viola Weaver (Wayne); Hazel Bream, all of Pennsylvania; 11 Grandchildren; and 15 Great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Raymond Bream.
In honoring Wayne's wishes, his body has been cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 1, 2025. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM, at the Knobley Covenant Brethren Church, New Creek, WV and services will follow at 2:00 PM with Pastor Chris Leatherman officiating.
