Donnie Marie "Joanie" Whetzel, age 69, a resident of the Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center in Petersburg, WV, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA.   She was born on May 24, 1953 , in Landes, WV, the daughter of the late Edward Luther and Mila Mae Whetzel.

Joanie attended Wise school in Landes, Johnson Run and Petersburg High School.  She was a member of Rough Run Brethren Church and worked as a housekeeper for many years.  Joanie enjoyed drawing and coloring as well as playing with her nieces and nephews.  She cherished time spent with her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Ms. Whetzel is survived by: 4 sisters, Rhoda Marie Wratchford of Petersburg, WV, Betty Miller (Bradley) of Maysville, WV, Juanita Alt (Delmas) of Romney, WV, Ilene Wilburn (Lee) of Old Fields, WV; 2 brothers, Randy L. Whetzel of Petersburg, WV, Keith E. Whetzel of Petersburg; and several nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: 2 brothers, Jolly Joe Whetzel, David Whetzel; a brother-in-law, Ernest Wratchford, and a sister-in-law, Sheila Whetzel.

Joanie's family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 , Noon – 2:00PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV.  Funeral services will follow in the funeral home chapel at 2:00PM with Pastor Greg Rotruck officiating.  Interment will be in the Nesselrodt Family Cemetery in Landes, WV.
