Dorothy Belle Whetzel, age 91, of Petersburg, WV, entered Heaven’s Gates on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at her home. She was born on February 8, 1935 in Circleville, WV, the daughter of the late Gordon George and Annie Zernie (Wimer) Arbaugh. On February 17, 1954, Dorothy married Arthur Franklin Whetzel who survives in Petersburg.

Mrs. Whetzel attended school in Circleville and went to the Brake Covenant Brethren Church in Dorcas, WV. She enjoyed gardening, which provided food for her family. She loved planting flowers that delighted her heart and listening to gospel music, that lifted her soul. But, her greatest love was for her family and cats while providing a safe place for them to call home.

Dorothy leaves behind to cherish her memory: a son, Gordon “Frank” Whetzel (Ruthie) of Petersburg, WV; 5 Grandchildren; and 8 Great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by; a grandson, Terry Whetzel; 4 brothers, Guy, Calvin, Floyd, and Robert Arbaugh; 4 sisters, Mary Wimer; Martha Keplinger; Betty Whetzel; and an infant sister.

Dorothy’s family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, 10- AM until 12 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home, Petersburg, WV. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Craig Howard officiating. Interment will be in the Whetzel Family Cemetery, Arthur, WV.
