Obituary

It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Edna Mae Harman,

beloved wife, devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this earthly

life on Thursday, May 28, 2026, to be with her dear Lord.

Edna’s life was a beautiful example of unconditional love, kindness, faith, and

dedication to family. She married the love of her life, Richard “Dickie” Harman, and

together they shared 63 wonderful years of marriage, building a home centered on love,

laughter, faith, and family. Her greatest joy in life was the family they created together,

and nothing brought her more happiness than spending time with those she loved so

dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Irene Waggy.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Richard “Dickie” Harman; her

children, Alisa (Ray) Bellavita, Cindy (Ronnie) VanMeter, Libby (Greg) Keplinger, and

Richie (Lisa) Harman; and her sisters, Margaret Dalhmer and Ilene Alt.

Edna was a proud and loving grandmother to Amber Hawk, Kyle (Corey) O’Brien, Sean

O’Brien, Josh Hawk, Whitney (Brian) Walden, Kelsey O’Brien, Kinsey Wilfong, Matthew

(Anita) Harman, and Katie (Chris) Lofton. She also leaves behind 15 beautiful great-

grandchildren who brought endless joy and pride to her life. Her family was truly the

center of her world, and she was deeply loved and treasured by each of them.

Edna attended Franklin High School and later graduated from Petersburg High School.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and devoted many

years to caring for and teaching children at Grant County Head Start. She later retired

as the Recorder for the City of Petersburg, where she was respected for her dedication

and service to the community.

A faithful member of the Petersburg Memorial Covenant Brethren Church, Edna lived her faith daily.

She lovingly taught Sunday school and was the Children’s director for 32 years. She

also found great joy in singing in the church choir. Her gentle spirit, warm smile, and

caring heart touched countless lives through her church, community, and family.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing she is now at peace in the

presence of her Lord. Her legacy of love, faith, compassion, and devotion to family will

continue to live on through all who knew and loved her. She will be forever missed and

forever cherished.

Edna’s family will receive friends on Monday, June 1, 2026, 12-2 PM, at the Basagic Funeral Home & Crematory in Petersburg, WV. Funeral services will follow at 2:00PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Shawn Champ officiating. Interment will be in the Maysville Cemetery, Maysville, WV.
