Eleanor Somers Rexrode , age 95, of Ft. Seybert, WV, went to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, surrounded by her loving family in Ft. Seybert, WV. She was born on September 19, 1928, at Luray, VA, the daughter of the late Clarence and Beulah Caroline (Sours) Somers. On October 29, 1950, Eleanor married Marvin B. Rexrode, who preceded her in death January 8, 2008.

Eleanor was a 1945 graduate of Luray High School and a 1950 graduate of Rockingham School of Nursing. She had worked part-time at the Pendleton Manor for 20 years and was one of the first two home health nurses in Pendleton County. Eleanor also assisted with clinics at the Health Department.

Eleanor was an active member of Fairview Bethel United Methodist Church, where she had been in charge of Vacation Bible School for many years and helped teach adult Sunday School Class. She was dedicated to her church and rarely missed Bible Study meetings. Eleanor loved to read, especially the Bible.

Eleanor was devoted to her family and lived an active life on the family farm where she willingly helped with various daily chores. She took pride in her gardening and it blessed her to share the produce from her many gardens with her family and friends. Eleanor was very talented when it come to cooking and baking and was especially known for her chocolate chip cookies. Farm visitors and workers were always welcome at her table and usually headed for the famous cookie jar.

Mrs. Rexrode leaves behind to cherish her memory: 2 sons, Michael B. Rexrode (Tracey) and Kenton Rexrode (Angela), all of Ft. Seybert, WV; a sister, Audrey Campbell of Luray, VA; a granddaughter, Tiffany Reynolds (Jordan Bradfield) of Ft. Seybert, WV; and a great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Paige Bradfield of Ft. Seybert, WV. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death: a granddaughter, Melody Ann Rexrode (stillborn); and 3 sisters, Frances Tillett, Elizabeth Gochenour, and Genevieve Anderson.

Mrs. Rexrode's family will receive friends on Saturday, May 25, 2024, 9-11 AM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, WV. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Judy Vetter  officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Ft. Seybert, WV.
