Obituary

Elwood Preston Harman, affectionately known as "Bub," passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, following several weeks of hospitalization in Morgantown, West Virginia. Born on September 14, 1941, in Upper Tract, West Virginia, Bub lived a full and vibrant life, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and occasional hard work.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Marlene L. Harman, of Upper Tract, and his only son, Michael B. Harman, also of Upper Tract and sometimes Morgantown, his beloved sister, Virginia Grace Hammer, of Franklin, and a special Niece and a special Nephew who were more like a brothers and sister to him, Benny Kimble of Jarrettsville, Maryland and Beverly Diaz of Surprise, Arizona.

Elwood was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Click "Click" Harman and Eva Elizabeth "Lizzy" Harman, both of Upper Tract. He was also preceded in death by his only brother, Herbert C. Harman, of Pasadena, Maryland, and his sister, Allie E. "Sis" Harman, of Upper Tract.

After graduating from Franklin High School in 1960, Bub ventured to Baltimore, Maryland, where he worked for General Motors and later for various railroads. Despite spending nearly 30 years working away, his heart remained in the mountains of West Virginia, and he eventually returned home. In his later years, he worked locally at Judy's Drugstore, Hanover Shoe, and as a security guard at Pilgrim's Pride in Moorefield.

Bub was a proud jokester, a loving husband, and a devoted father. His sense of humor and warm personality brought joy to everyone who knew him. He loved watching the Polka Joe Show, westerns, and old car auctions on TV. He was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles, the Washington Redskins, and the West Virginia Mountaineers. Bub also enjoyed hunting mushrooms and spending time in the great outdoors.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Bub's family will receive friends on Saturday, January 25, 2025, 11 AM until 1:00 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, WV. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Sam Sponaugle officiating. Memorials may be made to Upper Tract Volunteer Rescue Squad.
