Evelyn Virginia Vandevander, age 82, of Franklin, WV, formerly of Dayton, VA, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, January 30, 2022, surrounded by her family at Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center in Petersburg, WV. She was born on May 21, 1939, in Dayton, VA, the daughter of the late Raymond and Alma (Rhodes) Shank. On January 18, 1975, Evelyn married Tracy Rex Vandevander, who preceded her in death on April 23, 1990.
Mrs. Vandevander attended school in Dayton, Virginia. She was a Christian by faith and attended church services in the chapel of Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center in Petersburg, WV. Evelyn had worked as a homemaker for Pendleton County Commission on Aging. She loved to dance and listen to country music and gospel hymns. She enjoyed ice skating and her passion was spending time with her family and sharing her love with the residents at the Pendleton Nursing Home, where she enjoyed being a Volunteer and devoting her personal time.
Evelyn leaves behind to cherish her memory: a loving daughter, Cindy Sue Sites (Kit) of Seneca Rocks, WV; 3 step sons, Johnny Vandevander (Sandy) of Broadway, VA, Bill Vandevander (Debra) of Maysville, WV, James Vandevander of Broadway, VA; 2 sisters, Loraine Mongold (Norman) and Marylee Heatwole, both of Virginia; her triplet grandchildren, Kellsie, Kaleb, and Kolton Sites of Seneca Rocks; several step grandchildren ;and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her spouse and parents, she was preceded in death by: a step daughter, Diana Vandevander.; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Heatwole.
Mrs. Vandevander's family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, 1-2 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, WV. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Tom Shaum officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Franklin, WV.
