Garry L. Hogbin, age 79, of Petersburg, WV, passed away on Friday, November 9, 2018 at his residence. He was born on July 19, 1939, in Maysville, WV, the son of Twila Maxine (Davis) Hogbin, of Petersburg, WV, and the late Carl D. Hogbin. He was married to Nancy Hogbin of Petersburg.
Mr. Hogbin was a 1957 graduate of Petersburg High School and a 1972 graduate of Florida Junior College, where he graduated with honors. He had attended Tidewater Community College and St. Leo University in Florida. He loved watching Judge Judy and the WV Mountaineers. Mr. Hogbin was a member of Calvary Baptist Temple in Rig, WV and was a past member of the American Legion. He retired from the US Postal Service in 1999, after 21 years, had worked for the Potomac Valley Transit Authority. He was a 20 year Veteran of the US Navy and served during the Vietnam conflict.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Hogbin is survived by: 2 daughters, Sandra Carpenter and husband Greg of Chesapeake, VA, Terri Staley and husband Paul of Chesapeake; a step daughter, Kelly Bennett and husband Mark of Petersburg; a son, Matthew Hogbin of Petersburg; 2 sisters, Darlene Pallavicini and husband Bill of Petersburg, Bonnie Hogbin of Petersburg; a brother, Carl Hogbin II and wife Wilda of Petersburg; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Hogbin.
Mr. Hogbin's family will receive friends on Friday, November 16, 2018, 1-2 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastors Charles C. Snyder and Steven P. Snyder officiating. Interment will be in Lahmansville Cemetery, with Military Honors conducted by Petersburg VFW and the US Navy. Memorials may be made to donor's choice.
