Geneva Wright, age 80, of Franklin, WV, went home to be with her Lord, on Thursday, May 16, 2024, surrounded by her family at Sentara RMH in Harrisonburg, VA. She was born on April 25, 1944, in Moyers, WV, the daughter of the late Cameron Gilbert and Gladys Gertrude (Strother) Moats. On April 3, 1971, Geneva married George Richard Welton Wright, who preceded her in death on October 29, 2001.
Geneva attended Moatstown School and she was a member of Entry Mountain AME Church. She was a very hard worker and had worked for 40 years for Hanover Shoe Company and 5 years for Pilgrims Pride. Geneva was extremely talented and enjoyed sewing and cooking. She was devoted to her family and especially loved her children and all of her grandchildren.
Geneva leaves behind to cherish her memory: a daughter, Anita Moats of Franklin, WV; a son, Reginald "Bo" Moats (Sherry) of Harrisonburg, VA; a sister, Clara Mae Johnson of Staunton, VA; 4 brothers, Otis Moats (Patty) of Staunton, VA, Clarence Moats of Franklin, WV, Charles Whitney Moats (Faye) of Franklin, WV, Hank Moats of Bridgewater, VA; 10 grandchildren, Damien, Demane, Margaret "Muffy", Sabrina, Tiesha, Ryan "RJ", Bridgette, Alexis, Isaiah, Darrin; and 17 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by: a daughter, Valerie Moats ; 3 brothers, Floyd, Eldon, Roscoe; 3 sisters, Loretha, Ruby, Blanche; a grandson, Brock; and a great-grandson, Malakai.
Geneva's family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, 11:00 AM until 12:00 Noon at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, WV. Funeral services will follow at Noon in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Lance Porter officiating. Interment will be in the Entry Mountain Cemetery, Franklin, WV. Memorials may be made to Franklin Volunteer Rescue Squad. Memories and words of comfort may be left at www.basagic.com.
