Gregory Allan Smith Jr ., age 36, of Petersburg, WV passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024 at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.  Mr. Smith was born on December 17, 1987 in Leesburg, VA, the son of Gregory Allan Smith Sr. (Fiancée Becky Burgess) of Petersburg, WV and Carol Helm (Rusty) of Myrtle Beach, SC.

Mr. Smith graduated from Carolina Forest High School in Myrtle Beach, SC and was currently employed at Adell Polymers in Petersburg on the maintenance crew.  Greg attended the Maysville Bible Brethren Church and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Mountain Top Hunting Club, and during the off seasons, you could still find Greg in the woods hunting deer sheds or near the ocean looking for shark's teeth. Greg was always quick to deliver an encouraging word and a helping hand.  He loved Fast Cars and was always ready to display his vocabulary with the crossword puzzle. He will be greatly missed by his family and his dog, Ivy.

In addition to his parents, Greg is survived by: a sister, Elizabeth Smith of Winchester, VA; Maternal grandmother, Phyllis Warner of Baker, WV; and Paternal grandparents, Ebb and Diane Smith of Petersburg, WV; 4 uncles, Gary (Kathy) Warner, Randy (Donna) Warner and Roger (Shirley) Warner, all of Maysville, WV, Terry (LeAnne) Warner of Burlington, WV; 4 aunts, Michelle (Michael) Meek of Maysville, Kathy (Rick) Ours of Moorefield, WV, Brenda Lamb of Charlottesville, VA, and Pam (Richard) Smith of Capon Bridge, WV; several cousins, Jeremy Warner, Leroy (Kelly) Kuh, Kristy (Jason) Rohrbaugh, Tara (Jeremy) Pratt, Brittany (Whitney) Hinkle, Steven (Kayla) Warner, Maranda Warner, Shawn (Miranda) Rohrbaugh and Tiffany (Jason) Albright.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, LeeRoy Warner; two cousins, Matthew Warner and infant Michael Warner.

Greg's family will receive friends on Sunday, September 29, 2024, 2-4 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home, Petersburg, WV.  Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Monday, September 30 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Lynn Durbin officiating.  Interment will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Franklin, WV.
