Obituary

Harvey Harrison Moses Jr of Petersburg, WV left this earth to be with our heavenly Father on September 8, 2021.

Harvey was born on May 15, 1925 in Milton, WV, the son of the late Harvey H Moses, Sr and Alma F (Wallace) Moses. On May 4, 1946 he married his wife of 75 years, Betty (Villars) Moses, who survives in Petersburg. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family being preceded in death by 3 brothers and 4 sisters. He leaves behind 3 daughters: Martha L Kessinger, Mary C Beshers and E Marie Lantz; 5 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Harvey graduated from Milton High School where he excelled in football and basketball. He retired as a District Manager for Verizon Communications, C&P in Charleston, WV, and District Personnel Manager at the company headquarters in Washington, DC .

Harvey and his wife, Betty, were supporters in education with Potomac State College of West Virginia University. Both were inducted into the Woodlawn Circle Society by the WVU Foundation receiving honorary degrees and distinguished service awards for their contributions.

Harvey was a WWII Veteran, having served with the Navy Amphibians Corp in the Pacific. He was an avid Outdoorsman and especially enjoyed turkey hunting and fishing for native brook trout in the WV mountain streams. He enjoyed working on the farm and gardening. Harvey was a WVU fan, following both the football and basketball teams (win or lose, he stayed true). He was a dedicated family man first and foremost. Harvey was proud to serve in the military in a time of need, answering the call to duty and proud to be an American serving his country. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #6454. Harvey lived out his life with honor and integrity. His gentle presence will be missed by his many friends and family.

We request no flowers as his body has been donated to WVU Medical Science, but any donations in his honor may go to: Grant County Hospice, 100 Hospital Dr. Suite 2 Petersburg, WV 26847 ; Wounded Warriors, https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/ , or the Gary Sinise Foundation, https://www.garysinisefoundation.org/donation

It's time, friend, time! For peace the spirit aches~

Day chases day, each passing moment rakes

Away a grain of life, and while we, you and I,

Would rather have lived on, lo, all at once we die.

Here happiness is not, but peach and freedom are.

--Alexander Pushkin
