Herbert Lee Cooper, age 81, of Edgewood, MD, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD.  He was born on February 7, 1944 in Harman, WV, the son of the late Russel and Mary (Teter) Cooper.  On February 17, 1964 he married Dorothy Lee (Harper) Cooper who survives in Edgewood.

Mr. Cooper was a graduate of Circleville High School, class of 1962 and attended Emmorton Baptist Church in Bel Air, MD and Riverside Church in Cabins, WV. Herb began his career with the General Motors Plant in Baltimore, MD, retiring after 32 years of service. He was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed being in the woods hunting, building fences, and working on his Seneca home.  Herb especially loved his family and quality time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His legacy will live on in them.

In addition to his wife, Herb is survived by: a daughter, Jacqueline Chariello (Stephen) of Churchville, MD; a son, Mike Cooper (Karen) of Bel Air, MD; a brother, Freddie Cooper of Seneca Rocks, WV; 2 sisters, Betty Gordon (Donald) of Circleville, WV; Mary George (Junior) of Joppa, MD; 3 grandchildren, Vincent Chariello; Adam Cooper; Brianna Farmer (Noah); 2 great-grandchildren, Emery Larkin and Theo Farmer.  He was preceded in death by: 6 sisters, Geneva Champ; Ruth Smith; Jo Ann Watts; Othetta Conrad; Virginia Rexrode; and an infant sister; 3 brothers, Carl Cooper; Randy Teter; and Danny Cooper.

Herb's family will receive friends on Monday, July 28, 2025 11-1 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Tommy George officiating.  Interment will be at North Fork Memorial Cemetery, Riverton, WV.
