Obituary

James Howard "Jim" Garrett, age 80, of Franklin, WV, passed away on Friday, June 29, 2018 at Pendleton Manor in Franklin. He was born on September 29,1937, in Sardes, WV, the son of the late Harrison W. and Nina Rose (Ashcraft) Garrett.

Mr. Garrettt was a 1955 graduate of Lumberport High School and retired after 25 years as a Supervisor for Bell Atlantic Telephone Company. He was a member of the Franklin Presbyterian Church, Franklin Ruritan Club, Moose #769, The American Legion, Masonic Lodge #144 AF & AM, and the Nembus Shrine Lodge, Parkersburg, WV. Jim was also a member of he Lions Club where he served as past President. He was a Veteran of the US Army where he served as Sergeant.

Mr. Garrett is survived by: his wife, who he married on July 23, 1988, Betty Smith Boggs Garrett of Franklin; a daughter, Cathy Morrison and husband Roy of Fairmont, WV; 3 sons, Michael Garrett and wife Sue of Fairmont, James "Jimmie" Garrett and wife Mindy of Paduka, KY, David Garrett and wife Melissa of Fairmont; 3 step daughters, Cheryl Garner and husband Clay of Alexandria, VA, Patricia Alt and husband James of Franklin, Samantha Boggs of Petersburg, WV; a sister, Anna Mae Stewart of Warren, OH; 12 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Shaferman Garrett; 3 brothers, Bill, George, and Harrison W. Garrett, Jr.; and 2 sisters, Mary (Bennett) Stump and Betty Moore.

Mr. Garett's family will receive friends on Monday, July 2, 2018, 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home.  Funeral services will follow on Monday at 12:00 PM in the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home, with Rev. Kevin Hand officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Pendleton County Veterans Honor Guard and Masonic graveside services will be conducted by Pendleton Lodge #144 AF & AM.
