Obituary

James Tyler Jones, affectionately known as "JJ," passed away on April 30, 2026, in Winchester, Virginia. Born on October 21, 1956, in Ronceverte, WV, the son of Bessie (Hairston Jones, of Hagerstown, MD and the late Ted Curtis Jones.

JJ lived a life defined by his warmth, humor, and boundless caring nature. Throughout his years, he was treasured by many for his loving personality and his ever-present wit, bringing joy to those who had the privilege to know him.

JJ dedicated a significant portion of his career to Whitehouse Applesauce in Winchester, VA, where he was respected not only for his work ethic but for the genuine kindness he shared with his colleagues. Beyond his professional life, he was a man fueled by vibrant passions and an insatiable curiosity for the world around him. He loved to watch wrestling, a pastime that brought him delight and spirited conversations. Always eager to explore, JJ loved to travel and be on the go. Family and friends held a special place in his heart, and he treasured every opportunity to visit and reconnect with them. Those who knew him well remember his famous phrase, "Now then," often spoken with a humorous twinkle, capturing the essence of his approachable and warm demeanor.

JJ leaves behind to cherish his memory: his beloved wife, Katherine Virginia "Kathy" (Smith) Jones; a daughter MaryAnn Elizabeth Bucklew of Kingwood, WV; sons Bobby Hall (Nicole) of Franklin, WV, Francis Eockarie of South Africa; a sister Debbie Preston of Hagerstown, MD; and 2 brothers, Billy Jones of Hagerstown, MD, and Ted Curtis Jones, Jr. of Westernport, MD; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews..  In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Mae Jones; three brothers, Phillip, Bobby, and Howard Jones; and a sister, Violet Jones.

In honoring JJ's wishes, his body has been cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at the Franklin Ruritan Building with Pastor James Payne officiating, 1:30-3:00 PM.  Memorials may be made to "the family", c/o Basagic Funeral Home, POB 215, Franklin, WV 26807.
