James Arthur Simmons, age 84, of Franklin, WV, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at Sentara RMH in Harrisonburg, VA. He was born on May 26, 1937, in Ft. Seybert, WV, the son of the late Curtis and Mary (Hartman) Simmons. On July 17, 1967, James married Betty (Harold) Simmons, who survives in Franklin.

Mr. Simmons attended Brandywine School and Fairview Bethel Church. He had worked as a sheet metal worker, having worked at Dunham-Bush for 34 years from 1967-2001 and he was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local #100.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Simmons leaves behind to cherish his memory: 2 sons, James A. Simmons, Jr. (Martha) of Tuscumbia, AL, William Jeffrey Simmons (Janet) of Staunton, VA; 3 sisters, Marie Mitchell of Franklin, WV, Shirley Mitchell of Harrisonburg, VA, Karen Warble of TX; 2 brothers, Randy Simmons (Anna) of Franklin, WV, William Olin Simmons of Franklin, WV; and a grandson, Dalton of Franklin, WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Madeline Shifflett (January 2005).

Mr. Simmons' family will receive friends on Saturday, April 30, 2022, 12-2 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, WV. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Ft. Seybert, WV, with Military Honors conducted by the United States Army, Camp Dawson representatives.
