Jennings Earl "Jay" Smith , age 64 of Sugar Grove, WV, passed away on Friday, July 20, 2018 at Sentara RMH in Harrisonburg, VA. He was born on December 31, 1953, in Hagerstown, MD, the son of the late Walter Jennings Smith (2-10-1984) and the late Imogene "Jean" (Kiser) Smith (4-5-2008). On January 2, 1977, Jay married Diana B. (Bowers) Smith, who survives in Sugar Grove.

Jay was a 1971 graduate of Franklin High School and attended WV Tech. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Pendleton County Emergency Rescue (#4101), Pendleton Masonic Lodge #144 AF & AM, and a founding member of South Fork Fire Department and Rescue Squad. Jay had worked at Hanover Shoe, Wampler Foods, and ShenMar Poultry, and he retired from the Sugar Grove Navy Base.

In addition to his wife, Jay is survived by: a daughter, Suzanne Smith Brubeck and husband Philip of Staunton, VA; a son, Jason C. Smith and fiance, Martha Williams of Sugar Grove; 3 brothers, Gary Smith of Franklin, Steve Smith and wife Kathy of Grafton, WV, and Greg Smith and wife Jackie of Franklin; 2 grandchildren, Jaylee Diana Brubeck and Marion Beatrice Williams.

Jay's family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, 6-8 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Calvary Lutheran Church in Sugar Grove, with Pastors Jason and Jessica Felici officiating. Interment will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery with Masonic graveside services conducted by Pendleton Lodge #144 AF & AM.
