Jimmie Emanuel Atkins , age 74, of Brandywine, WV, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at Sentara RMH in Harrisonburg, VA. He was born on March 19, 1945, in Elkton, VA, the son of the late Simmie and Kathleen (Hansbrough) Atkins. On July 13, 1984, Jimmie married Sharon Rose (Nelson) Atkins, who survives in Brandywine.

Mr. Atkins attended Rockingham County Schools and retired from Wampler Poultry and Oak Flat Farms. His favorite past time was hunting, fishing, and watching Westerns.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Atkins is survived by: 2 step daughters, Tammy Long (Teddy) of Dayton, VA, Juanita Crider (Joey) of Knoxville, TN; 2 sons, Jimmie Lee (Missy) of Jacksonville, FL, Doug Atkins of Jacksonville, FL; a step son, Shannon Nelson (Sandy) of Grottoes, VA; 4 sisters, Betty Washburn of Springfield, OR, Geraldine Borror (Emmett) of Bridgewater, VA, Juanita Lambert (Calvin) of Bridgewater, VA, Judy Atkins of Crimora, VA; 4 brothers, Dewey Atkins (Denise) of Dayton, VA, Ricky Atkins (Judy) of Keezeltown, VA, Roger Atkins of Dayton, VA, Jessie Atkins (Bonnie) of Broadway, VA; 9 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren; and special friends and family, Brenda Pitsenbarger, Diana Nelson, Gavin Nesselrodt and Kristen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ellen Lenzi.

In honoring Jimmie's wishes, his body has been cremated and a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at 6:00 PM in the chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home, with Pastor Kathleen Michael officiating.
