John Robert Adamson, age 88, of Adelphi, MD and formerly of Onego, WV, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at the Washington DC VA Medical Center. Mr. Adamson was born on March 21, 1933 in Onego, WV, the son of the late Vernon C. Adamson and Pearl (Morral) Adamson. John was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Mae Adamson on December 25, 1995.
Mr. Adamson attended school in Onego and Riverton, WV and the Onego Church of the Brethren. He was a veteran of the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany from 1952-1955. Upon leaving the military, John worked for Chrysler at the Desoto and Windsor division in Detroit, MI until he found his true passion in life as a carpenter. He enjoyed traveling with his family, even vacationing outside of the country, squirrel hunting, a love for reading, and had read through the bible 3 times.
John leaves behind to cherish his memories: 3 sons, Gary Martin Adamson (Dorothy) of Moorefield, WV; Robert Jay Adamson (Patti) of Fredrick, MD; Larry Michael Adamson of Adelphi, MD; 2 sisters, Shirley Fields of Dayton, OH; Phyllis Ruddle of Franklin, WV; 1 brother, Rupert "Squirt" Adamson of Job, WV; 3 grandchildren; Westley Adamson, Alexandria Zoll, Hunter Adamson; and 1 great-grandchild, Scarlett Adamson. In addition to his wife, John is preceded in death by: 1 daughter Catherine Pearl Adamson, 2 brothers, Keith Adamson, Joyce Adamson; 4 sisters, Sue Adamson, Betty Adamson, Lucille Judy, Helen Butler; 1 infant grandson, Kyle Travis Adamson.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 15, 2022, 1PM at the Onego Church of the Brethren with Pastor Charles Dusty Twigg and Pastor Greg Adamson officiating. Military honors will be bestowed by the US Army and Potomac Highland VFW Post #6454 Honor Guard. A private committal service will be at the South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens, Petersburg, WV.
