Obituary

John Stephen "Steve" Moore, age 79, formerly of Cabins, WV, passed away on January 12, 2026, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas WV.  He was born on December 1, 1946, in Kingwood, WV, the son of the late Walter Jackson Jr. and Eleanor Ruth (Harned) Moore.

Steve graduated high school in Detroit, MI and joined the United States Navy where he served during the Vietnam War and was part of the highly skilled unit, USNMCB40, US Navel Mobile Construction Battalion, known as Seabees.  Steve was a former IRS agent and worked as a US customs agent in various US and Canadian airports before retirement.  He was an avid golfer and member of Valley View Golf Club in Moorefield, WV.  He was also a huge fan of the University of Michigan Football Team and the Detroit Red Wings Hockey.  Every spring, Steve looked forward to his annual Seabee's reunion that was held in different locations around the country and in the summer, he enjoyed traveling back to Michigan for his Cody High School and neighborhood reunion.  The highlight of the trip was going to Daly's to get a Daly Burger and reminisce about fond high school memories.  In the evening, you could find Steve with a cigar and glass of bourbon.

Steve leaves behind to cherish his memory: a daughter, Laurie Jozwiak (Rob) of Utica, KY; a sister, Sara McKee (Mike) of Mayer, AZ; 3 grandchildren, Ricky, Robby, Rayna; and a great-granddaughter, Amelia.

In honoring Steve's wishes, his body has been cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  Memories and words of comfort may be left at www.basagic.com or on Facebook at Basagic Funeral Home.
