Obituary

Joyce Waldschlager , 77, of Franklin, WV, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 6th, 2020 at her daughters' home. She was born on May 20, 1942 in La Juanta , Colorado, the daughter of Joy Trantham and Anna (Stump) Newby.

Joyce's greatest joy in life was in serving others.  She was a CNA at Pendleton Manor nursing home for 38 years, where she was affectionately known as "Granny".  T he residents entrusted to her care weren't a job or a task to be done, they were people that she loved, and she treated them as if they were her own family. She led by example to her co-workers in her work ethic and her dedication. She would be the first to tell you that being a CNA was a calling, "We're here to take care of the residents."  She was incredibly proud of her children and was a typical doting grandma.  Becoming a great-grandma brought her immense joy and gave her purpose following her retirement.   Joyce made many friends over the years that started out as neighbors and co-workers, and she loved them as fiercely as she loved her family and her residents.  Her generous and giving spirit will live on through the lives she touched and inspired over the years.

Surviving Joyce is one daughter, Cindy (Billy) Evick of Franklin, WV; two sons, Mark (Crystal) Dehlin of Charlotte, NC ;Glenn (Cheryl) Waldschlager of Virginia Beach, VA; seven grandchildren, Jonathan, Steven, Megan, MaCee , Hannah, Michael, KaLee , Gage and Caira; and five great-grandchildren, AnnaLyse , Ella, Evylia , Aubrey and Myles. Also surviving is one brother T. Ken (Phyllis) Trantham of Tuscon, AZ, a half-brother Ralph Newby (Margaret) and a half-sister, Dixie (David) Bassuener.  She is preceded in death by her parents and husband Everette Eugene "Gene" Waldschlager . Memorial service arrangements are pending. In lieu of flowers, and in keeping with Joyce's wishes, the family requests that donations be made in Joyce's honor to Pendleton Manor for interior decorations to create a homelike environment for the residents.
