June  Rosalee "Rosie" Smith , age 85, of Petersburg, WV, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Autumn Lake Healthcare of Crystal Springs, WV.  Ms. Smith was born on November 30, 1938 in Riverton, WV, the daughter of the late Jesse James Thompson and Merlie (Maysell) Vandevander.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Smith on September 17, 1995.

Ms. Smith graduated in 1956 from Circleville High School and was a Christian by faith.  June worked as a secretary for the Brooking Institute in Washington D.C.  She was always on the go, looking for her next adventure, traveling wherever the roads may lead.  In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and offering a helping hand to friends and family.  June was well known for her home remedies or just to give a piece of advice to anyone in need.

June leaves behind to cherish her memories: 2 sisters, Rebecca Kline of Waldorf, MD; Betty Bennett of Cherry Grove, WV; and several nieces and nephews, including a special great-niece, Kayla Lantz of Petersburg, WV.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: a brother, George Thompson; 4 sisters, Virginia Thompson, Bessie Turner, Ruby Thompson, and Dorothy Jean "Dot" Lantz.

In honoring June's wishes, her body has been cremated and a celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at 1:00 PM at North Fork Memorial Cemetery, Riverton, WV, with Pastor JD Wilkins officiating.   Memories and words of comfort may be left at www.basagic.com or on Facebook at Basagic Funeral Home.
