Junior S. Murphy , age 96, of Franklin, WV, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Pendleton Manor in Franklin, WV. He was born on October 23, 1926, on the Thorn, WV, the son of the late Samuel and Eva Mae (Rexrode) Murphy. On October 7, 1961, Junior married Mary Sophia (Gallant) Murphy, who preceded him in death on February 4, 2012.

Junior was a 1945 graduate of Franklin High School where he played baseball, basketball, and captain of the football team. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Junior served in the US Army and retired in 1975 from the US Air Force as a Master Sergeant.

Junior leaves behind to cherish his memory: a daughter, Patricia Contrades (Stanley) of Franklin, WV; a grandson Jonathan Contrades of Franklin, WV; a granddaughter, Lauren Wunderle (William) of Ft. Stewart, GA; 2 great-grandchildren, Emmalynn and William; In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Ruddle.

Mr. Murphy's family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, 6-8 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, WV. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, with Rev. Mario Claro officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Franklin, WV, with Military Honors will be conducted by the US Air Force.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to CAN, POB 503, Franklin, WV 26807.
