Katherine Virginia (Smith) Nelson , age 96, of Goose Creek, SC, formerly of Circleville, WV, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024, in Goose Creek, SC. She was born on April 9, 1928, in Circleville, WV, the daughter of the late Lester and Beulah (Calhoun) Smith. Katherine married William Daniel Nelson, who preceded her in death on November 6, 2012.

Katherine was a graduate of Circleville High School and a member of the St. James United Methodist in Goose Creek. She retired as a secretary from Prince George's District Schools.

Katherine leaves behind to cherish her memory: 3 daughters, Kaye Nelson-Walski (Barry) of Mt. Airy, MD, Kathy Bertolini (David) of Monks Corner, SC, Jacqueline Nelson of Elkins, WV; 11 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by: a son, William Daniel Nelson; 3 brothers, Conway, Bill, Richard; and 2 sisters, Rebecca and Mary.

Katherine's family will receive friends on Saturday, January 4, 2025, 10-11 AM at the Circleville Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM with Rev. Gary Cecil officiating. Interment will be in North Fork Memorial Cemetery, Riverton, WV. Memorials may be made to the Circleville Presbyterian Church or St. James United Methodist Church.
