Kitty Ruddle Hammer , age 93 of Franklin, WV, passed away on Friday, September 28, 2018 at Sentara RMH in Harrisonburg, VA. She was born on June 23, 1925 in Deer Run, WV, the daughter of the late Isaac Saylor and Verna Catherine (Smith) Ruddle. On June 20, 1946, Kitty married Charles Roy Hammer, who preceded her in death on June 25, 2012.

Ms. Hammer was a graduate of Franklin High School and a member of the Friends Run Church of the Brethren. She had worked at Franklin Garment Company and retired from Hanover Shoe where she worked in the stitching department.

Ms. Hammer is survived by: 2 daughters, Carol Ann Propst of Franklin, Lura Catherine Thompson and husband Michael of Cresaptown, MD; a son, Charles Edward Hammer and wife Patricia of Franklin; sister, Betty L. Heavner and husband George of Harrisonburg, VA; a brother, Joe Reed Ruddle of Edgewater, MD; 5 grandchildren, Charles Edward II, Jared Isaac, Erin Kristin, Cassandra Blair, Seth Michael; 6 great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Bradley, Keith, Dylan, Tristyn, Jonah; several nieces and nephews; and a faithful companion, "Buddy". In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: 4 brothers, Saylor Jr., Dwight, Richard, and Max; and 3 sisters, Cornelia Hamilton, Mary Susan Swadley, and Ruth Dolly.

Ms. Hammer's family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, 6-8 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel, with Brother Thomas Hanks officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.
