Obituary

Lawrence Ray Barr, age 89, of Petersburg, WV, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at his home.  He was born on February 1, 1933, the son of Richard and Grace (Halterman) Barr.  On March 20, 1993, Lawrence married Sandra (Riggleman) Barr, who survives in Petersburg.

Mr. Barr graduated from Moorefield High School, earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Shepherd University, and a Master's Degree in Education from WVU.  Lawrence was a Veteran of the United States Army and was a lifelong member of the Oak Dale Presbyterian Chapel where he served as Deacon and taught Sunday School. He belonged to the American Legion #78 and was an Ambassador of Operation Hero's Support. Upon retiring after 30 years, as a Moorefield Elementary School Teacher in 1988, Lawrence enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his grandson, JohnWilliam, gardening, trips to the beach, and spending time with his family.  Lawrence was an avid Mountaineer Fan and #1 fan of his grandchildren, who will remember how he cheered them on at various sporting events.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Barr leaves behind to cherish his memories: 3 daughters, Teresa Snell (Dan) of Berkeley Springs, WV; Rebecca Barr of Moorefield, WV; Amy Welton of Moorefield, WV; 2 sons, Gary Lee Minnich (Nicole) of Petersburg, WV; James E. Minnich II of Petersburg, WV; 4 sisters, Eleanor Hiser of Petersburg, WV; Bonnie Sites (Ralph) of Petersburg, WV; Wayde Harper (Dean) of Jefferson, MD; Faye Vance of Hamilton, VA; a brother, Leslie Barr (Carolyn) of Wardensville, WV; 11 Grandchildren, Tara Combs (Chip); Israel & Jarod Perlov; Rachael Snell; Daniel & Dustin Alt; Lindsey Alt Staub (Shawn); Patience-Ann, Kymberly, Jaylee & JohnWilliam (Willie) Minnich; 4 Great-Grandchildren, Carter & Kate Combs; Mina & Freya Staub; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Lawrence was preceded in death by: a sister, Marion Wilson and a grandson, Brayden Phillips.

Mr. Barr's family will receive friends on Sunday, June 19, 2022 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 20, 2022 in the funeral home chapel at 11 AM with Pastor Jim Yao officiating.  He will be escorted by the Patriot Guard and Legion Riders to the New House Cemetery, Rig, WV, with Military Honors conducted by the US Army from Camp Dawson and the Grant County Veteranss Honor Guard.  Memorials may be made to the Oak Dale Presbyterian Chapel or Operation Heroes Support c/o Gary Minnich, 105 Pine St. Petersburg, WV, 26847 .  Memories and words of comfort may be left at www.basagic.com
