Margaret Engle Trumbo, "Peggy" , died on May 3, 2025 at home in Alexandria, VA. She was married for 52 years to Richard Bonner Trumbo, COL, USAF (ret) who preceded her in death on February 18, 2017.
An active member of St. Aidan's Episcopal Church in Alexandria, VA since 1975, she has been a church administrator, a Senior High Youth advisor, Christian Education Committee leader, flower coordinator for 30 years, and a founding member of the Women's Book Group at St. Aidan's.
Peggy was an Honorary Lifetime Member of the National PTA as a result of her work to formalize the parent-volunteer program in the Fairfax County Public Schools in the 1970s, documenting the thousands of hours parents spent in the schools, and using that information to receive additional teachers and bonuses for the schools. A 1963 graduate with a BA in Music from Mary Baldwin College, Staunton, VA, Peggy taught piano privately for 20 years. She was a past-president of The Wing of the Aerospace Medical Association, and supported countless community volunteer activities. Born in Hampton, VA, in 1942, her father, Raleigh Moore Engle, was a Presbyterian minister, and her mother, Elizabeth Crawford Engle was an avid Virginia historian.
Peggy and Richard had two sons: Richard Hunter Trumbo, his wife Stacy and their two sons Jacob Robert and Richard Jackson; and Raleigh Bonner Trumbo, his wife Tina and their two children Luke Crawford and Anna Elizabeth, all of Alexandria. Also surviving is a sister, Betty Engle Stoddard of Raleigh, NC, as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation with family will be on Friday, May 16, from 6-8 PM at St. Aidan's Episcopal Church, 8531 Riverside Rd., Alexandria VA 22308. A celebration of her life will be at 11 AM on Saturday, May 17 at St. Aidan's. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery the following week (time/date TBD) in Brandywine, WV.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elizabeth Engle Scholarship Fund, Mary Baldwin College, Staunton, VA 24401, or to the Memorial Garden Endowment Fund, St. Aidan's Episcopal Church, 8531 Riverside Rd., Alexandria VA 22308. A Graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandywine, WV.
