Obituary

Marvin Roy "Smoke Stack" Carr, age 71, of Charlottesville, VA, formerly of Grant County, WV, passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Acordius Health in Harrisonburg, VA. He was born on June 28, 1949, the son of the late Vercie (Kisamore) and Eston Carr, Sr.

Mr. Carr attended school in Maysville and Petersburg, WV and was a Christian by faith. He had worked as a truck driver for a short period of time until disability forced him into retirement. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed a great bear chase. Marvin was a former member of the Maysville Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Carr is survived by: 5 daughters, Loretta "Rettie" Carr of Greentown, VA, Bonnie Weldon (Joby) of Charlottesville, VA, Debbie Brower (Matthew) of Moorefield, WV, Amber Kennedy (Jay) of Charlestown, NH, Margaret Jones (John Henry) of Scottsville, VA; 2 sons, Roy "Roscoe" Carr of Moorefield, WV, Steven Fred Carr (Tiffany) of Harrisonburg, VA; an adopted son, Rodney Marshall; 3 sisters, Donna Carr of Petersburg, WV, Peggy Kimble of Petersburg, WV, Matilda Faye Miller of Maysville, WV; 2 brothers, Steve Carr of Harrisonburg, VA, Eston Carr, Jr. of Melbourne, FL; a special friend, Eugene Cook; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a: son, Jason Carr; grandchildren, Vercie Yates, Wayne Hammonds, Miram Yates, Aubree Lynn, Ramondo Jones; and 2 brothers, Nolan and James Carr.

Mr. Carr's family will receive friends on Friday, April 16, 2021, 6-7 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Rick Bergdoll officiating. In honoring Marvin's wishes, his body has been cremated.
