Mary Alice Hedrick, age 89, of Petersburg, WV, passed away on January 16, 2019 at the Grant County Health & Rehabilitation Center in Petersburg. She was born on May 29, 1929 in Petersburg, WV, the daughter of the late Thomas Ray Crites and Goldie Deerfield (Freed) Crites. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Hedrick, Sr. on January 6, 1991.
Ms. Hedrick attended Johnson Run and Petersburg Schools. She retired from the Joan Curtis Sewing Factory in Petersburg. She later worked at the South Branch Valley Liquidators in Petersburg where she was known to her customers as the "shoe lady" as well as a reliable home seamstress for many folks in the community. Mary Alice was a member of the Petersburg Memorial Church of the Brethren and a former member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary #6454.
Ms. Hedrick is survived by 1 son, Raymond "Buck" Hedrick, Jr. (Sandy) of Petersburg; 3 daughters, Shirley Simon (Ralph) of Moorefield, WV, Linda Borror (Doug) and Mary A. Barger (Roger) both of Petersburg; 1 sister, Beulah McCauley of Winchester, VA; 1 brother, Donald Crites of Summersville, WV; 5 grandchildren, Teresa Shirk, David Simon, Doug Borror, Matt Borror and Jeanette Cosner; 14 great-grandchildren, Olivia Bible, Jacob Doyle McCausley, Tyler Cosner, Andrew Cosner, Katie Lahman, Kylie Lahman, Braxton Lahman, Jamie Barger, Chelsea Shirk, Jake Simon, Samantha Simon, Marty Borror, Jacob Borror and Luke Borror; 4 great-great-grandchildren, Lexi Thorne, Leanna Thorne, Elijah Cook and Jacob Simon and 3 step great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Ms. Hedrick is preceded in death by: 3 brothers, Calvin Crites, Bob Crites and Tom Crites; 2 sisters, Waneda Rogers and an infant sister, Pauline Crites; 2 granddaughters, Denise (Barger) Lahman and Stephanie (Hedrick) Bible McCausley; and a great-granddaughter, Allison Cosner.
Ms. Hedricks family will receive friends on Saturday, January 19, 2019 from 2-6 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV. Funeral services will be on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at 2PM in the Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Harold Cullers officiating. Interment will be at the South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens in Petersburg, WV. Memorials may be made to the Petersburg High School FFA Chapter.
