Obituary

Mary Kathleen “Kate” (Hartman) Mitchell, age 92, of Franklin, WV, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Sentara RMH in Harrisonburg, VA. She was born on May 27, 1933, in Cave, WV, the daughter of the late Melvin Earl and Mary Ellen (Lambert) Hartman. On August 31, 1950, Kate married Roy Abraham Mitchell, who preceded her in death.

Kate attended school at Zigler on Smith Creek and Franklin High School. She was a member of The Franklin Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints. Throughout her working years, Kate made significant contributions at Dunham-Bush and later retiring from AMP, where she distinguished herself with a strong work ethic and a sincere dedication to her roles.Kate found her greatest joy in her home, where she acted as the cornerstone of her family, a role she embraced with deep passion and unwavering care for her family and friends.

Kate leaves behind to cherish her memory: 2 daughters, Dolores Jean Lam of Franklin, WV, Doreen Faye Turner (Pete) of Port Republic, VA; 2 sisters, Corneila Teter and Nancy Hartman, both of Franklin; 12 grandchildren, Ryan, Michael, Timothy Jared, Brittany, Bethany, LaRee, Konja, Shannon, Kevin, Danny, Michelle, Jessica; 11 great-grandchidren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by: 2 sons, George “Kevin” Mitchell and Roy “Steven” Mitchell; 4 brothers, John, Otis, Weldon and Loy Hartman; and a sister, Lucy Jean Propst.

Kate's family will receive friends on Sunday, May 31, 2026, 12-2 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, WV. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in the Samuel Propst Cemetery, Smith Creek Road, Franklin, WV. Memorials may be made to any Pendleton County Rescue Squad or to PAWS.
