Obituary

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Mary Louise McCalley age 78 of Petersburg, WV on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at the Winchester Medical Center.

Born outside Philadelphia, PA to Thomas James and Mary Agnes McCloskey, Mary Lou was raised in Washington DC. She attended Blessed Sacrament School and Holy Cross High School. She married Bob McCalley who lived just a stone's throw away.

They raised their boys in Chevy Chase, Maryland and retired to Petersburg, West Virginia in 2003.

Mary Lou was a caretaker for all. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grammy and friend.

She gave of herself and her time in a countless number of ways including at the boy's schools, the church, the soccer club, So Others May Eat, cleaning up after the 1985 West Virginia flood and as a member of the Petersburg, WV Lions Club

Mary Lou was a "roll up your sleeves and get it done person." She loved cooking, canning and working in the garden. If someone saw a need in her community, they often called Mary Lou because she was an action person. Her solutions often involved her teammate Bob and they were a powerful giving team.

Her loss leaves an empty spot in the lives of everyone she touched. Everyone that knew her was drawn to her and her energy and dedication to helping others.

Mary Lou is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert McCalley, sister Judy Horman, brothers Tommy (Claudia) McCloskey and Jimmy (Catherine) McCloskey, sons Michael (Libby), Brad and Patrick (Marci) and her grandkids Damon, Logan, Riley, Mel, Ali, Josh and Dominik. She was predeceased by her sister Jane Carmody.

Mrs. McCalley's family will receive friends on Saturday, December 14, 2019, 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at St. Mary's Church in Petersburg, WV, with a Memorial Service following at 1:00 PM, and a reception immediately after the service at Kaposy's Great Room. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at 1:00 PM at the Knights of Columbus in Bethesda, MD.
