Mary Grace Moats , age 91, of Franklin, WV, passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at the Pendleton Manor in Franklin. She was born on July 8, 1929, in Moyers, WV, the daughter of the late Albert Samuel and Emma Cleriece (Beverly) Moats. Grace married Virgil Moats, who preceded her in death on December 24, 1989.

Grace attended elementary school in Institute, WV, graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Christiansburg, VA, and continued her education at John Brown College in Harpers Ferry, WV. She had worked at Hanover Shoe Company for 34 years in Franklin, WV. Grace was a member of the Moatstown AME Church, where she had a passion for singing with the Moatstown Choir. She was selected as the 2013 Treasure Mountain Festival Parade Marshal.

Grace is survived by: 2 daughters, Crystal Moats of Cayce, SC, Cephornia Smith of Harrisonburg, VA; a son, Anthony "AJ" Moats of Moyers, WV; 3 sisters, Elsie Barrow, Franklin, WV, Cora Grandison, of Strasburg, VA, Thelma Moats of North Carolina; a brother, Earl Moats (Gloria) of Franklin, WV; a daughter-in-law, Helen Moats of Staunton, VA; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by: 2 sons, Chester and Dennis Moats; a daughter, Gloria Moats; 4 brothers, Harmon, Melvin, Lawrence, and Eugene Moats; and a sister, Beverly Gardiner.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, 8:00 AM until 7:00 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, WV. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at 12:00 PM at the Albert Moats Family Cemetery, in Moyers, WV, with Pastor Eldon Moats officiating.
