Mary Rice "Ricie" Somerville , age 87, of Franklin, WV, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Pendleton Manor in Franklin, WV. She was born on July 9, 1933, in Ashville, NC, the daughter of the late Emily (Mather) Kellogg Whiting Norvelle and the late William Scott Whiting, Jr. Mary married James "Jim" Somerville, who preceded her in death on January 25, 2014.

Mrs. Somerville attended Living Faith Church in Franklin, WV and was a homemaker and loving mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Somerville is survived by: 6 sons, Edward Somerville (Debbie) of Union Mills, NC, Scott Somerville (Marcia) of Sugar Grove, Rev. Jim Somerville (Christy) of Richmond, VA, Greg Somerville (Suzie) of Gaithersburg, MD, Robert Gray Somerville (Debby) of Summerville, SC, Dr. Billy Somerville of Queens, NY; a sister, Isabel VanMerlin of Dover, NH; 24 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by: a brother, Evans Whiting; and 2 sisters, Eleanor Moylan and Connie Lowery.

A private graveside will be held, with Pastor Steve Teter, Josh Blount, and Rev. Jim Somerville officiating. A memorial service will be held at a later date in 2021, with a time of remembering in person and via Zoom .
