Matthew William Sherman, age 53 of Old Fields, WV, was called home with his Lord and Savior after a long battle with cancer on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at his residence. Mr. Sherman was born on May 8, 1965 in Petersburg, WV the son of Mary Catherine (Judy) Sherman of Old Fields and the late Ray William Sherman.

Mr. Sherman attended Petersburg High School and was a Christian by faith. Matthew worked as a carpenter for Hinkle Construction and was a carpet installer for Luther Alt and Ralph Cook. He enjoyed gardening and was an excellent woodworker and any job that involved working with his hands.

In addition to his mother Mr. Sherman is survived by: 2 sisters, Sheila Cook and husband, Ralph, of Baldwin, GA and Kathy Warner and husband, Gary, of Arthur, WV; 4 brothers, Carroll Sherman and wife, Phyllis, of Dorcas, WV, David Sherman and wife, Leaveata, of Petersburg, Mark Sherman of Old Fields, and Duane Massey.

Mr. Sherman's family will receive friends on Friday, July 13, 2018 from12-2 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg. Services will follow at 2PM in the Chapel of the Basasgic Funeral Home with
