Merlin Phillip Harper, age 71, of Riverton, WV, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, surrounded by his family at his home. He was born on April 3, 1954, in Petersburg, WV, the son of the late Wright and Betty (Hedrick) Harper. On October 14, 2005, Merlin married Gena (Burch) Harper, who survives in Riverton.
Merlin was a 1973 graduate of Circleville High School. He had previously attended High Rock United Methodist and Franklin Seventh Day Adventist Church and was a member of North Fork Baptist Church. Merlin's lifelong passion was cattle farming. He was a devoted husband, father, uncle and brother, that took pride in his family and his farm.
In addition to his wife, Merlin leaves behind to cherish his memory: a daughter, Betty Harper of Riverton, WV; a step daughter, Virginia Bruce (Eric) of Cambridge, MD; a step son, Adam Swift of Augusta, GA ; 2 sisters, Lucy Kisamore of Riverton, WV, Rebecca Funk (Mike) of Rowlesburg, WV; a brother, Berlin Harper (Debbie) of Seneca Rocks, WV; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Merlin's family will receive friends on Saturday, June 7, 2025, 6-8 PM at the North Fork Baptist Church, Riveton, WV. Funeral services will be on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Eddie Reyes officiating. Interment will be in North Fork Memorial Cemetery, Riverton, WV. Memories of words and comfort may be left at www.basagic.com.
