Nathan Hess , age 82, of Franklin, WV, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at Sentara RMH, in Harrisonburg, VA. He was born on December 21, 1937, in Franklin, WV, the son of the late John Calvin and Mary Emma Mongold.

Nathan attended Sugar Grove School and was a member of the Wayside Baptist Church. He had a passion for drag cars and dirt track racing. Nathan had worked at Ethan Allen and retired from Perry Engineering.

Nathan is survived by: a special friend, Violet Thompson of Brandywine, WV; 4 daughters, Tammy Hess of Monterey, TN, Vicky Champ (Adam) of Franklin, WV, Jennifer Carper (Mike) of Fulks Run, VA, Megan Hess (Matthew Sheppard) of Richwood, WV; a son, Anthony Hess (Brittany Harris) of Richwood, WV; 4 sisters, Linda Warner (Nathan) of Franklin, WV, Geneva Simmons (Donald) of Warrenton, VA, Ruth Skeins, of Warrenton, VA, Treva Moats of Manassas, VA; 3 brothers, Russell Mongold (Wanda) of Franklin, WV, Donald Mongold (Jill) of Berryville, VA, Ronald Mongold (Dorothy) of Ruther Glen, VA; 10 grandchildren, Deona Emmy Champ, Daniel Champ, Falon Fox, Hayley Freeman, Megan Queen, Michael Carper, Jr., Brooklyn Hess, Layla Sheppard, Armani Hess, and Isaac Hess; and a great-granddaughter, Charlotte Queen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: a son, Nathan Hess, Jr. (1997); a brother, Ernest Mongold; a sister, Mable Mongold; and an infant sibling.

Nathan's family will receive friends on Friday, March 13, 2020, 12-2 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, WV. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Tim Johnson officiating. Interment will be in the Simmons Family Cemetery in Sugar Grove, WV.
