Nelson Lee Poe, Sr. age 75, of Petersburg, WV passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024 at UM Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, MD.  He was born on November 5, 1948 in Grafton, WV, the son of the late Norman Lee and Norma Ruth (McKeen) Poe.  On August 9, 1996 Nelson married Shirley (Berg) Poe who survives in Petersburg.

Mr. Poe attended West Port High School, Baltimore, MD and was a Baptist in Faith.  Nelson served as a Merchant Marine and retired from Maryland Glass as an operator in Baltimore.  He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 78 and loved classic cars.  When Nelson wasn't spending money at Walmart, he enjoyed listening to oldies music from the 50's and 60's and watching survivor, war movies, and the ID Channel.  Surrounded by family, Nelson had a full life, full of love and laughter that will live on in those who love him.

In addition to his wife, Nelson is survived by: 2 sons, Nelson Lee Poe, Jr. of Chestertown, MD; David Lee Poe (Kimberly) of Arnold, MD; and 4 Grandchildren. He was known as Pop Pop to Anamaria "Sunshine" Amaya; Angelina "Gibber Jabber" Amaya; and special uncle to Zellie "Noodle Head" Cheek.   He was preceded in death by: a son, Nicholas Poe; a brother, Virgil "Bugsy" Poe; and a sister, Mary Ryan.

In honoring Nelson's request, his body has been cremated.  His family will receive friends on Saturday, May 4, 2024 1–2 pm, at the Basagic Funeral Home, Petersburg, WV.   A Celebration of Life will follow in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 PM with Pastor Frank Ketterman officiating.  Memorials may be made to your local Animal Shelter.  Memories and words of comfort may be left at www.basagic.com
